Solar is the term used generally to describe the different forms of energy generated by the sun�s rays.  Solar is a form of a renewable energy source.  In this writing we will refer to the sun�s rays as solar rays.

Solar has to main forms:

i)                    Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems

ii)                  Solar water heating

Solar PV systems are used to generate electrical current from solar rays.  These systems work by using a solar PV panel, to charge a solar battery.  The solar panel and solar battery are connected to each other by using a solar regulator.  The energy in the solar battery can be withdrawn directly as 12V current or inverted to 220V by using a solar inverter.

 

Solar water heating systems are used to generate heat from solar rays and transfer it to water.  Solar water heating for domestic household usage can be classified into two main systems:

i)                    Flat panel solar water heating systems

ii)                  Evacuated tube solar water heating systems

Flat panel solar water heating systems work mainly on direct sunlight and heat.  These solar systems are used as indirect solar water heating systems that require two-yearly maintenance.

Evacuated tube solar water heating systems work on solar radiation principles, meaning that these systems are more effective especially on cold or cloudy days.  These solar systems are used as direct solar water heating systems that are maintenance-free.

 

Solar systems are becoming more popular at a rapid speed world wide, mainly because solar rays are plentyfull and free of charge in our solar universe.
